Book Guy had been the source of mystery for the past few weeks - she couldn't even explain why he stuck out in her brain so much. Maybe it was because he was cute, but it was more than that too! He was her upperclassmen - wasn't everyone, it felt like? - but he was just so hard to talk to! He was always with his nose in a book every time Flick saw him in the halls, and she was starting to debate whether she needed to sing "Belle" every time he walked by.
It wasn't even just that! Every time she saw him, he had a new book too! What was so interesting about books anyways?
Still...
She'd seen him reading "Matilda" at one point - and it had caught her off guard. She'd loved the movie growing up! And oh yeah, it had been a book, right? Flick remembered required reading when she was little, but nothing had really stuck out at her - not with all the hopping across the globe she had done in her earlier years.
Still, if Book Guy was so into reading, maybe there was a reason for it? That was what she told herself - and why she'd checked out a copy of Matilda from the library, despite the weird looks from the librarian. She was surprised at how easy it was to read - but the differences...
The bell had rung for the end of the day - and she spotted him in the halls. Okay, she could do this!
"Hi!" she waved to get Erik's attention. "I saw you reading Matilda a few days ago and you're always reading stuff, so I figured I'd see what the fuss was about!" she laughed, showing him her copy. "It was really good! I'm only familiar with the movie, but the ending...well, it's really different, huh?"
...it was about now she was realizing how she kind of sounded like a stalkery creep.
God, she needed to stop doing this.
