It had been a few months since Kage had began attending Ouran, and despite the fact she was a foreigner Kaede had been shocked to find out she hadn't yet been to Harajuku. It was one of his favorite places to go shopping, among many, and he enjoyed seeing the other people that mingled around. So finally they'd planned out an early day trip on a day off from classes. A quick thirty minute train over and they were in Shibuya.
Kaede's fingers clasped around the bag's strap lying across his chest as he squirmed his way past other passengers who weren't quiet getting off but still blocking the doors. None of them flinched, since it was pretty normal when the trains were busy. He'd tried to keep his eyes on Kage to make sure she got off just as easily. To make things easier for her they'd met at the station nearest to her house and rode together. He knew it wasn't common for her to deal with this type of travel, considering the type of life she'd led back in Scotland.
He briefly wondered if they had hay rides as his mind wandered while waiting on the platform for her.

Kage found Kaede one of the few males she could stand. He always asked permission before touching her, like hugging her or taking her hand, and he always made sure she could see him. It also helped that half the time she saw him outside of school he would be wearing women's clothing. Kage never seemed bothered by it. In fact, she respected him for being so comfortable in his own skin like that.....it also helped that she could sometimes yoink a cute skirt or two to borrow. Most of her friends dressed fairly 'normal'. It was nice to have someone she could share her love of outlandish clothes with.
Kaede had suggested taking the train and Kage had agreed with trepidation. The Japanese train system terrified her. The amount of people squished into one little metal box always made her uncomfortable and she had found herself clinging to Kaede's arm at one point as a few male patrons got stuck uncomfortably close to her. She was ever thankful when the train came to a halt at their stop and she slid off as fast as she could.
She slipped onto the platform, the heels of her boots clicking against the floor, only to be swallowed up in the cacophany of voices and movement echoed on the walls of the platform.
"So...where to first?" she asked with a lopsided grin.

Kaede looked over as soon as Kage hopped off. A few others followed suit, shoppers and businessmen and school girls all on their way to roam the city or head to work. The boy smiled, though it was concealed by a black face mask patterned with the lower half of a skull's white, bony jaw. Still, he could be heard pretty clearly underneath it as it only quieted his voice slightly; The rest of his outfit was just as monochromatic and adorned with multiple pins and accessories to his clothes and body. "Sorry, there's not really an ideal time to ride usually." Especially if you were headed to busy districts and cities like this. Reaching to his pocket, he retrieved a cell phone to check the time. It was still early, so they'd made good time. "Did you already have breakfast?" He asked. There were lots of vendors along the streets by the shops and several restaurants. They could get something to eat as they walked. Leading the way, Kaede began weaving slowly through the crowds of people. Opulent ads were plastered on almost every surface and it didn't change as he led the way out of the station and onto open streets. In reality it made sense. This was a popular area and every s hop on it wanted to get the attention of not only customers but the photographers and bloggers that hung around every day. Once they were walking into the territory of 'Harajuku' it became painfully aware [to Kage] why it was considered such a fashion hotspot. When it was called 'Japanese Street Style' it wasn't an exaggeration. Tons of people and crowds and groups walked along the sidewalk, all of them in strange and extravagant outfits. Not just the style Kaede wore but so much more. Decked out Lolita and Fairy Kei, independent fashion designers in oversized bows and homemade rings made out of children's toys, and a lot more. This was the type of place people got recognized. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu made a notable example. If anything Kage might have even felt she looked tame!

Breakfast? Kage hadn't even thought to eat. She'd spent most of the morning dressing. Those corkscrew pigtails took a long time to get right, even if the ends of her hair naturally curled. To get it perfect, she actually had to straighten her hair first, put it in pigtails and then curl the ends of the pigtails. Kage's outfit (Minus the hat) was one of her favorites and the only thing about it that really seemed out of place was the amber locket she wore around her neck. She never took it off. She wore it even when she was sleeping. It meant the world to her. Her star hairpin also graced her hair, like always. "I could stand ter get some breakfast, aye." She had settled on crepes. Rather sweet for breakfast, but Kage often revealed a sweet tooth. That was one of the many reasons she loved dating Crystal. She got to try all of Crystal's creations. Kage's eyes lit up as she scanned the stores and the people that passed them. Kage suddenly no longer felt self conscious about the way she dressed. Every now and then, she'd point out a top or accessory to Kaede that she liked. "This is amazing," she commented.

Crepes were a bit messy, so after obtaining their super sweet breakfast, Kaede carefully removed the mask from one ear and let it hang off the other near his neck. His was stuffed with with cream, strawberries, blueberries, and some pineapple. He'd also gotten some sort of green tea flavored powder on it. With one hand he held the crepe, taking bites as they continued walking.
Plucking a strawberry from the top, he popped it into his mouth. After swallowing, he looked at Kage; She seemed impressed with the area. "It's definitely impressive." He agreed, glad she liked it. "Seeing everyone expressing themselves is nice. It's like their own personal art." The practice of self-expression was really important to him. It's why Kaede liked this place so much. There was so much to do and everyone was having a good time and there was so much freedom. Plus there were a lot of shops and several art museums and galleries; And small bands would often appear to perform on random days in the plazas or on the streets.
After walking a bit, he found a nearby fountain for them to sit at and finish their food before they went into any stores. No one would appreciate cream and chocolate sauce and whatever else on the clothes. Besides, they could still watch people and observe the other crowds on the street. In fact, Kaede had already pulled his cell phone out again and was taking snaps of his shoes. He'd probably ask some people nearby for pictures, too. It was a common practice in Harajuku to ask for pictures of other people you were impressed with (and others asking for your pictures, too).
"I heard something happened at the dance team?" It had happened a couple of days ago during the tryouts, right? There was some commotion going on and he'd heard it mentioned in class between other students.

"I certainly feel less out of place here," she pointed out. She always felt strange around school. It always seemed like everyone was staring at her. Kage had found herself posing for a few pictures herself. She also snapped a few. A couple of people seemed interested in her accent and for once she didn't feel like being a foreigner was a bad thing.
It was when she sat back down that Kaede brought it up and her smile vanished. Kage's eyes hit the ground. Sh'd been avoiding Ageha and practice. She was on the verge of just quitting. Nothing had gone the way it should have. It should have been Spencer, not her. She wondered if Spencer hated her. He'd have every right to. She wished Kaede hadn't said anything about it. Couldn't she have one worry-free day?
"Tryouts fer vice-captain. Washio-sensei said she expected me ter audition. I figured it wouldn't hurt. I wasn't going ter be picked. Then it came down ter me, Spencer, and Souta....and...I donnay know why...Washio-sensei picked me. She said it would help me and Ageha 'learn ter be a team'. Now everyone hates me. I tried ter get Ageha ter work with me...at least long enough ter find another sponser....nothing went right."
Kage closed her eyes. No crying. She swore she wasn't going to do this anymore. How often had she leaned on her friends? "I think I'm just gonna leave the club. I'm not good enough fer them as is."

Kaede finished the last few bites of his crepe and used one of the napkins they'd been given to clean his face before reaffixing the mask properly. Just before he did, he gave Kage a reassuring smile. He was glad she felt at ease here. When a few people asked them for pictures, he made sure to get a bunch of his own snaps. One or two in particular already had him thinking about some art pieces.
He was just about to get them standing and headed towards their first stores when she'd replied. Her voice sounded sad and broken. Immediately he regretted asking. Before, Kaede had been unaware of what fully happened. All the talk about it around school was just that their were arguments in the team and with the supervisor! Not that Kage was so involved with it or that she'd even been trying for Vice-Captain.
"A-Ah... Let's talk about something else then!" He waffled, unsure how to soothe his friend's crying. "I..." He thought about what she'd said, trying to find comforting words for her. Thoughtfully he fidgeted with his rings, eyebrows knitting together. "I don't think everyone hates you. They're probably upset... and hurt? Maybe you need to let things cool down before you judge what's going on." The boy sat back down on the edge of the fountain, eyeing Kage carefully. Were his words helping?
"Sometimes... when people have their pride hurt, they lash out. Okamoto-San is mad at Washio-Sensei. Not you. If you leave the club now then nothing gets fixed." He said, tilting his head slightly at the girl. "You could all talk to someone above Washio. Like Kobayashi or the Chairman. But if you stop now then it just looks like running away for something you didn't do."

Sweet Kaede. He always tried to find ways to comfort her without making her umcomfortable. She might not have minded it if he had hugged her this time around, but it was alright. He was trying his very hardest to cheer her up. She didn't want to give up, that was for sure. She'd started taking extra lessons just so she could catch up with the team. She wasn't going to let this hold her back.
"I just wish she'd talk ter me a bit more. Do more than just tell me I need extra help or lessons." Ageha's suggestion had to be seek out a teacher and she had...but she had wanted more than just suggestions. She had wanted to spend time learning from Ageha...but it seemed like her senpai wanted nothing to do with her.
"Let's nay dwell on that now. We came out here ter have fun and I'm here makin' everything gloomy." She laughed a little and stood. She finished her food and found a trash can for the wrappers.
"So...where shall we go?"

Despite her reputation as a shut-in, Michiko went out sometimes, and today was one of those 'sometimes' days. She was alone, of course, but there were so many people swarming the streets of Harajuku that she was more alone-but-not-lonely. It felt so nice, taking in all the unique ways people interpreted fashion and coordinated themselves. The massive crepe she bought helped, too! She picked one with bananas, ice cream, cheesecake, whipped cream, and caramel sauce all wedged inside.
So far, she had managed to nestle deep in the crowd and browse quietly, enjoying her crepe with preservative nibbles. Through many, many trips' worth of experience, she knew that was the best way to avoid having her picture taken. The last time someone asked, she got so nervous and froze up in front of the camera. It was really bad. People who could take pictures easily were lucky. She didn't know how they did it. It was so much more relaxing for her to remain as unnoticed as possible. As she walked, she latched onto a sight that couldn't exactly be unnoticed.
W-was that…
Yes. Michiko recognized drill pigtails like those anywhere.
"Kage-chan?" she ventured, shuffling away from the crowd, drawing closer. Michiko peered over at the other person with Kage. She couldn't see the lower half of their face, but she was sure she knew them. That was Tanaka-san… wasn't it??

Anxiety eased from Kaede's shoulders as Kage began to brighten up again. A smile formed behind his mask and he nodded slowly at her. "I think in time it'll improve. Especially when Washio-Sensei gets better or finds a better supervisor." He stood and carefully folded up the wrapper from his crepe, letting Kage toss it for him since she had already spotted a trashcan ahead of him.
There were a couple of stores around he knew would fit her 'style' more and he'd planned on going to a couple of them if not all. He was trying to remember exactly where h.NAOTO was, pretty sure it was farther down the street they were on. His eyes flickered upwards when he heard someone else addressing Kage.
It looked like Fujiwara-San from Art Club. He recognized her hairstyle immediately. Never having seen her outside of class, it was different seeing her outside of the school uniform (wasn't it always with classmates you didn't see outside of school?) but he really liked her outfit. Her style was really sweet and soft and very cute.
"Good morning, Fujiwara-San." Kaede replied after waiting for Kage to talk first.

Kage nodded. Kaede always had an encouraging word to cheer her up. She always felt so comfortable around him. She waited for him to decide where to go. He knew the place better than she did and even if a store wasn't her style, she didn't mind checking it out.
A voice...calling her name? She wasn't expecting to see anyone from school here, let alone someone who was so familiar with her. She spun around, almost expecting to see the annoyed face of Ageha, but when the person came into view, Kage scolded herself for not immediately recognizing the voice. It had been entirely too sweet for Ageha.
"Michi-chan!" she greeted.

"Ah… Tanaka-san!" So it was him after all! Michiko bowed to him, just low enough to let him know she was sorry, but not low enough to send her crepe spilling everywhere. "I'm sorry. I didn't know it was you."It was really strange, seeing Tanaka-san outside of school. She'd seen Kage-chan enough to get used to her, but Tanaka-san was rare. This was her first time at all. She wasn't sure what she expected. He wore a lot of black, but he wore it quite well. Kage-chan looked especially nice, too—more put together than normal, and extravagant. She fit right in here, didn't she? Michiko suddenly felt plain and small in her grey dress and woven hat. Then again, if she stood out like they did, she'd get all sorts of attention. "Are you shopping here today?"

Kaede's eyes opened wider as Michi bowed to him. It wasn't a big concern! He gave a reassuring smile, forgetting his lower face was concealed. But at least the feelings were there. "It's alright." It was probably a significant difference from the school uniform, even if he didn't wear it to the 'T'. Even in Art Club he was dressed very down in messy, paint covered jeans and t-shirts.
"Yes. Kage-San still hasn't been to many places in Japan, yet. So I thought I could show her Harajuku." He explained while putting his phone back into his pocket. "Would you like to join us, Fujiwara-San? I don't get to see you much outside of Art Club." His voice was warm and welcoming.

Kage grinned at Michi. A day with two of her closest friends? It sounded like heaven....especially shopping. Her grandmother allowed her a pretty hefty allowance, and Kage made extra money working part time at the theatre on the weekends. She felt she could splurge a little today.
"Aye, ye should come with us, Michi-chan," she said, tilting her head slightly. "Besides, I might absorb some fashion sense from ye if ye help me pick stuff out." Kage knew she had terrible fashion sense, wearing what she liked or what she thought went well together, rather than actually coordinating her clothing. Half the time, she just threw stuff on. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

Michiko thought, her lips pressing into a thin line. Even if Tanaka-san and Kage-chan were inviting her, she couldn't help but feel a little… intrusive. Like a—oh, what was the word?—third wheel…
But then: ‘Besides, I might absorb some fashion sense from ye if ye help me pick stuff out.’
An excited, disbelieving sort of noise leapt from Michiko's throat. “Really?!” Brightness pooled into her eyes. She straightened her posture, realizing that she was leaning forward, and glanced at Kage and Kaede both. “Ah… Okay.” She didn't have any other plans, really.
