Finn had nothing but good feelings the moment Spencer told him he planned to audition for Dance Team vice-captain. Who else would get it but Spencer?! He was a marvelous dancer! One of the best Finn had seen, in fact; even Ageha, who surely held the final decision, had to acknowledge that. It wouldn't have made sense to pick anyone else!
Finn's attention flitted between his phone, Scarlett, and Ryan while they waited in the closest hall. How much longer would they have to wait? His nerves felt all tingly, he couldn't stand it!
"Do you think we'll have to wait much longer?" He threw the question out to anyone who wanted to answer. They hadn't even gotten so much as a text! Finn just wanted the good news!

Bad things always seemed to happen in groups of three. It was what her grandma always said and she'd come to accept it as true. That morning, her eye pencil broke. She'd tried to think nothing of it. That afternoon, her pencil case split. She'd been so annoyed, it had been one of her favourite pencil cases as well.
Despite trying to to tell herself that bad luck didn't work that way she still felt uncomfortable. It was like the calm before the storm almost. She knew Spencer was a brilliant dancer and she wanted him to get vice captain, she really did! There was just a small uncomfortable feeling in her stomach. She was starting to get edgy, she wanted to know what happened!
At Finn's question she looked up then swallowed, looking down at her phone, willing for a text to arrive.
"Don't worry Finn, I'm sure we'll find out soon. He'll probably text you soon, and tell you how it went."

The hallway was silent until it wasn't. Spencer didn't bother to text any of them; instead, he announced his presence by walking over.
He looked defeated. All the angry energy had melted away from him, replaced with a lot more sadness than anything else. Ryan immediately stood up, hesitating for a moment before catching Spencer's eye. He wrapped his arms around him, slowly rubbing his back. Spencer put his head down on Ryan's shoulder, sinking down to the ground. Ryan let go as soon as they were both stable, letting Spencer lean against the wall next to Scarlett.
Spencer truly looked awful. He ran his hand through his hair, staring at the floor.
"Our shitty supervisor picked some talentless nobody. That chick that's constantly bitching about her shitty life." He bit his lower lip. He felt like he'd been punched in the stomach about fourteen times. "Washio can't even walk and breathe at the same time. I don't get why she got to pick. She's so fucking stupid. They're both idiots. I hate both of them." His head rocked back, smacking against the wall. He didn't flinch, staring at the ceiling instead.

Finn frowned, feeling something drop in him. What…?
"That doesn't make sense," he uttered, echoing his own thoughts. How could the supervisor have seen Spencer and picked someone who sounded like his opposite? Finn felt angry, but more than that, he felt horrible for Spencer. Disappointed. Hurt, even. "I-I thought it was Ageha's job to pick! Was she not there?" It didn't seem like her to show up and go along with this…
Finn inched close to Spencer, fumbling with his hands because he didn't know what else to do. He settled for sitting beside Spencer, against the wall. This was terrible. Terrible news.

As soon as Spencer arrived the uncomfortable feeling she'd had all afternoon seemed to be based on something. It was like a small part of her was saying 'I told you so' and it felt awful. Spencer looked awful. Scarlett didn't like seeing him like this, it didn't make sense to her. Spencer was supposed to be bright and happy and full of life just like he always was and now... He looked done.
Kneeling down gently next to him, she flinched when his head rocked back and hit the wall. She didn't know what to do, or what to say. Huh, that was a first for her. Usually she always had something to say. Her brother called her gobby because of it but now... Nothing she could say would change anything and would likely make it worse.
She didn't like seeing Spencer unhappy.
Reaching over for his hand closest to her, she laced her fingers through his gently and held onto it. Shifting closer she rested her head on his shoulder, holding his hand with both of hers. She didn't want to say anything and possibly make it worse so she opted for attempting to provide some sort of comfort.

Spencer rested his head against the top of Scarlett's, sighing deeply.
"She was. I don't know what happened with it." He hated this. It really didn't make sense. At least he was with his favourite people - it made him feel marginally better. Ryan set a small juice box next to his free hand, sticking the straw into it for Spencer. "Thank you, lovely Ryan." Spencer started sipping from it. He didn't want to be in this hallway anymore. He'd have preferred being somewhere else entirely, like slaughtering people in Halo in his room, but he wasn't.
"... I'm just so annoyed about the whole thing," he mumbled.

Ageha advanced from down the hall, running from the same direction Spencer had come from. Ugh, where could he even have gone to so fast?! He couldn't have gone home already! Should she have texted him first? She rounded a corner, half-ready to rummage for her phone and send Spencer something when she saw him. He was just a bit farther down the hall, with Ryan, Scarlett, and Finn.
She hurried over to the group.
"There you are!" She stopped, inhaling to retrieve what little breath she'd lost. "I need to talk to you. And Souta." She'd sent Souta a message on the way here because she didn't have the patience to track both him and Spencer down.

Spencer sort of heard Ageha before he saw her. He sighed, shifting so he wasn't leaning against Scarlett, and stared up at the approaching Ageha. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, really - at this point the world was so upside-down and backwards she could have been coming here to express her love for him, for all he knew.
"Oh," he said. "Um. Okay."

Souta had tried to find Spencer but clearly he'd gone the wrong way when he'd left the auditorium. Then Ageha had texted him and he'd quickly run back the way he'd come and then the opposite way from the auditorium he'd originally set off from. Eventually he saw a group of people up ahead and slowed down once he reached them.
He was still feeling unwell. He gave a half hearted sort of grin at the group and rubbed his arm, shoving his phone into his pocket.
"Hey."

There was no point in keeping anyone waiting.
"I had nothing to do with that back there." She had to clear the air with that first. "Washio told me I'd be helping make the decision. And she lied. I wanted one of you," she glanced between Spencer and Souta, "to be vice-captain. Not Kage. She's not skilled enough. Anyone can see that. Washio picked her to make us ~settle our differences~ or something, and I know she rigged the auditions because she mentioned all the things she claims Kage's so good at! I mean, why even --"
Ageha stopped, scowling. She was getting off subject. Souta (and Spencer) probably didn't have the energy to listen to her rant.
"Look. I don't want to be on a team supervised by someone who lies to me, hurts our members, and has stupid, secret motives that they're going to put above the team!" Ageha crossed her arms. "I say we ditch Washio. Let's make our own team. What do you think?"

Spencer blinked at Ageha. Uh...
He couldn't exactly say he trusted her. After all, this was Ageha. She hated everything he stood for and she had told him so! Multiple times!
However, he also... agreed with what she was saying. He got it. He did! The whole thing had been so stupid, so hamfisted and obvious and sneaky and evil. It was just evil. Plain and simple, it was wrong and it hurt to think about it. The longer he thought about it the more it sucked. And Ageha, for once, was right. He should probably get him saying that on video just so he wouldn't be able to deny saying it later.
"Okay," he said with a shrug, trying to appear nonchalant. Cool. "It's like anarchy. Can we crash their performances?"

The more Ageha spoke the more Souta sympathized with her. Who knew what had been running through Washio's head in the first place when she made her scatterbrained decision! But at the same time... they couldn't just up and leave straight away... right?
Spencer's attitude of being for it only made him more uneasy vocalizing his opinion.
"I think... we might have too... eventually." He patted his sides uncertainly, "But if we leave right away... you know what it'll look like, right?" He wasn't used to being the voice of reason and he didn't exactly like it, "I think... We definitely should start a new group... but we can't until we get a supervisor or a coach... and if we leave right now, it'll make us look really bad."
Looking up for the first time he sighed, "I want to start a new group... but for now we need to keep going to dance rehearsals and just keep an eye on what's going on... Maybe find younger students who'll join our new group. If we have a big enough group and someone lined up to coach us it'll be so much easier." He looked between Ageha and Spencer, "If she has stupid secret motives... then we should too! But... let's be careful about it."

Ageha nodded, the heaviness that had settled over her finally lifting the slightest bit. At least Spencer was on board with this. Souta should have followed suit easily.
But then, as he spoke, Ageha realized she couldn't be sure. Her eyebrows pushed together as she listened. Look really bad? Who cared about that? Wouldn't Washio make them look worse? Yet as Souta kept talking, she got it. She really did. It wouldn't do any good for the three of them to just leave. They wouldn't make it. What would happen to the rest of the team? Who would supervise them? Mutiny or not, Ageha didn't want to direct everyone alone.
"Fine." It was so weird, hearing Souta make sense. "I don't want to abandon everyone else anyway. Moreover, we'll have to find a supervisor, too." Her mind wandered back to Kage's plan from before. Could they enlist her to help with something like this? Maybe, but maybe not. "I want someone who actually knows something about dance. We need someone like that."
