At Luke's invitation and Reiichi scooting over, Masaru absently moved out of the way so Chitose could get seated first, and once he'd sat down, the atmosphere felt a little better. Ayame and Reiichi still didn't seem to recognize him, and that seemed a little disappointing - but, well, he was a middle school teacher. Hell, of the teachers he could spot, everyone else was a high school or university teacher. He grinned at Ayame's boisterous call of buying the next round - she was opening up more, good, he worried about her being so shut off! - and listened as Chitose and Kouta chatted.
There was just one thing bugging him.
What was Hana's deal? Even with the other teacher being a few chairs away, Masaru couldn't figure him out. What was with him ignoring Chitose like that? She'd just been asking how he was doing! Could he seriously not even bother lying through his teeth? God! Masaru fought the urge to frown about it, helping himself to a beer and taking a long swig.
Honestly, he'd always looked forward to the monthly nomikai - seeing his coworkers in a more casual setting, socializing and having fun was Masaru's idea of a good time. Social drinking was a plus too. He grinned again as Reiichi spoke up, though his eyebrow twitched briefly as Hana once again barely acknowledged anyone else.
God, whatever, let him be a douche then.
"Murakami-san, I'm up for it!" he volunteered. "It's been years since I've played though - mind givin' me a refresher?"
Maybe it was unfair going against the drunk guy though. Just a bit.

Oh... Uta-san hadn't acknowledged her at all. A frown flickered across Chitose's face. She wasn't sure what she had expected, really. After all, Uta-san was rather... unusual. He rarely spoke to anyone. Why would she have been an exception? Still, she was trying to be friendly; even a nod would have been fine.
But it couldn't be helped.
Her smile returned as she hurried over to her seat. At least Washio-san was coming around! Chitose couldn't remember the last time Ayame had bought everyone a round. Usually, the woman was so reserved. The alcohol must have been helping her warm up to everyone.
"Oh no, not me, Washio-san!" Chitose laughed. "My tolerance isn't what it used to be." Ah, she missed being young and in university now. If she was still that young, she could have easily outdrank everyone here.
Speaking of that, where was Masaru's friend - one of the other new teachers? Could she not make it, or was she running late? The latter seemed the most plausible. Chitose supposed that couldn't be helped either.
She turned to Murakami. "I'll observe for now, Murakami-san, but thank you for the invitation! I'd like to get warmed up first." It really wouldn't be fair to go into a drinking game perfectly sober, especially when Murakami was anything but.
